Words :: Part 2 :: Siff

by You Have My Word

[This is part two of a four part series about words in all forms.]

Apart from being obsessed with words and how they shape the world, I am a visual thinker. This is a problem when words are particularly descriptive. There are some words that I just can’t handle. It may be because they are so graphic, some of them just don’t roll easily off the tongue, others just sound awkward! If you get queasy easily, perhaps you should stop reading here. Here are some words that give me the heebie-jeebies (aside from that expression):

Something siff

  • Siff (but you know that by now)
  • Moist
  • Globule
  • Turgid
  • Nice (the South African tinge is even worse: “naas”)
  • Squirt
  • Gaff
  • Ooze
  • Flaccid
  • Birth
  • Sponge
  • Seep
  • Picturesque
  • Secrete (NOT the same thing as “secret”)
  • Inkling
  • Blossom
  • Girth

The nausea will eventually subside.
