Black Tuesday | Funeral for Freedom

by You Have My Word

The day before tomorrow
is today:
Black Tuesday.
For the first time in years
we question what we know –
what they’ll tell us
(have told us)
or blank out or
shroud
the truth
will stand
whether we know of it
(or not, if it’s up to them)
I cover my heart
with pitch black sleeves.
Secrecy is black.
Misinformation is black.
Ignorance is black.
Lying is black.
There is no enlightenment –
no knowledge
and no integrity to bring back
honesty, honour, hope
for a people who fought
sweat
blood
tears
all those years ago.
Right now:
Black Tuesday –
choose day.
Choose what’s right,
and noble and
unquestionable.
Or stand condemned:
Black.
Dead.
Decaying.
Truth will always set free –
if it is the truth
we really see
or your reality
thrown at me
manipulated strategically
politically
you are the enemy
with all your secrecy.
Speak up and speak out –
Tell the people what you’re about.
Their hands
wait to praise
(or blame).
Their hearts
are either for
or against
(carved onto Freedom’s grave)
on Black Tuesday.
