November PAD Challenge 22 | Banana

by You Have My Word

I can’t believe the November PAD Challenge is nearly drawing to a close – one week to go. It’s been terribly fun.

Prompt 22:

  • Pick a fruit, make it the title of your poem, and write the poem. Or
  • Pick a vegetable, make it the title of your poem, and write the poem.

Here’s mine:

Banana
I have never had a platform
to really vent my hate
for things like like plums and pawpaws
or fruit of any shape.
Too grainy and too stringy,
too many seeds and pips –
just generally disgusting,
but bananas are the pits.
The yellow makes me think of puke,
the smell makes me gag.
the texture is awful to the touch –
it really is that bad!
My greatest fear
more than anything
is being tied up and force-fed
this gross fruity thing.
I’ll tolerate an apple
or maybe even grapes,
but please don’t ever make me
eat the yellow fruit I hate.
