Do it right | Perfect purity: be an example

I blogged over at my church’s youth site this morning – iQUIPT – about something I shared with the youth a few weekends ago. I encourage you to go check out the full thing – we are called to purity!


“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in behaviour, in love, in faith and in purity.” (1 Tim 4:12)

Some other translations use the word “integrity” in place of “purity”. Integrity is adherence to moral principles, honesty, sound judgement, wholeness, identifying wrong from right and sticking to that. In essence, purity – in every form!

Paul is instructing Timothy in this. We know that Timothy was young – we are today’s youth – and his commands still apply to our lives. So, as Timothy was instructed to set an example in purity, we are too.

‘You have heard that it was said, “Do not commit adultery.” But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.’ (Matt 5:27-28)
