The embrace | 500 Words on Grace

by You Have My Word

Cast your burden on the Lord [releasing the weight of it] and He will sustain you.

There is grace coming down to me every moment of every day enabling me to take my next step. Grace as He holds together His universe, every sub-atomic particle by His active will. A grace that seems a little distant at first but more immediate when I realise everything ceases, self-implodes and disintegrates if He stops holding it all together for a nano-second.

But more personally and pressing is how the grace of God holds me. It’s coming to me every breath I take. It is arriving, every moment of every day and I depend on it to finish typing this sentence.

Paul says in 1 Corinthians, “By the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain. On the contrary, I worked harder than any of them, though it was not I, but the grace of God that is with me.”

As I live and work, it is God’s grace that is my strength as it arrives minute by minute to sustain me.

Grace is God giving me all I need to do what he wants me to do now and ten thousand years from now.

As I think of everything that lies ahead of me today, all the hard things, good things, miserable things and wonderful things, I remind myself that I’m not going to be left alone for any of that. There’s going to be a grace sufficient for every good deed.

I pray that I may live more consciously of that powerful, loving, all-sustaining embrace of God as I wait for the unfathomable, unimaginably great grace that will come on the day when Jesus comes again.
