Ain’t nobody got time for that

by You Have My Word

“Ain’t nobody got time for that” is probably my favourite meme at the moment. You can even follow Sweet Brown on Twitter here. It’s become something I’ve fused into my vocabulary because it is funny, and so many are true.

Inefficiency? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Emails? Ain’t nobody got time for that. Cold coffee? Ain’t nobody got time for that? Running out of petrol? Ain’t nobody got time for that.

What struck me yesterday though was how sad a reflection this is on our culture. We are busy. Ask someone how they are and they’re “busy” or “busy but good” or “busy but taking it one day at a time”. Let me say, just because we’re busy doesn’t mean we’re being effective. Just because we’re busy doesn’t mean we’re getting things done. Just because we’re scuttling around people all the time doesn’t mean that we’re connected to people.

What happens when the “ain’t nobody got time for that” extends to others? Or important things, or work that needs to be done urgently, or causes that are worth fighting for?

I don’t want to be so caught up in myself and my own time that I don’t have any time to give to others. Love? Have you got time for that? Serving? Have you got time for that? Doing what you said you would? Have you got time for that?

Time is precious; you’ve heard that a million times (if not more). Time can be stolen. Time can be lost. Time can we wasted.

Time will always be there. What are you doing with it?
